Kansas City Fashion Week is a huge part of my blogging calendar. I missed the last two seasons, first because my husband was battling cancer, and secondly, as the shows got canceled for COVID. Now that the shows are back, it felt great to continue my journey as official media. Team KCFW had a huge challenge on their hands, and they delivered perfectly. They pivoted their runway experience in the best possible way, in the current scenario. So its virtual shows this season, but the extravaganza hasn't been compromised, neither the spirit of KCFW been lost, in the process. This season KCFW was back at Union Station, and for me, that's always a special experience. There's something about that venue which is awe-inspiring, and when one of the biggest fashion events of the Midwest happens there, it lends to the magic.
Let's start with the recap!
The first designer of the evening was Atinuke Adelek's line, Zuri Perle, with hand-crafted, and timeless jewelry. She created the line to cater to African brides looking for traditional African jewelry to wear for their wedding here in the US. What appealed to me was the beautiful way she weaves her story across the different materials she uses. From the body-chains to the statement earrings, from the statement necklaces to even the statement top, it set the bar quite high! i could see myself wearing so many of her pieces, not only with my American outfits but also when I wear traditional Indian outfits.
The second designer of the evening was Claire Thomas with her line Vivi Design Studios. From jewelry, we moved onto kid's fashion. Fall classics reimagined for kids, with the most unique patterns. I loved how she coordinated unique masks with every outfit. My 7-year-old was watching the shows with me, and she squealed in delight when she saw this line! Beautiful recurrence of the tiger motif, I must add. As a girl mom, I could see myself shopping from this collection!
The third designer of the evening was Shannon Lehman. Mustard and burgundy were two of the Fall staples, to which she added her signature aesthetic. Loved the play of textures and her attention to detail. And who doesn't love a flair of boho, with edgy-chic, on the runway!
The fourth designer of the evening was Daria's Dresses. "romance", is the word that I want to use when I describe her line. You cannot miss the sheer femininity, the play of lace and embroidery, the bling factor, and those amazing corsets when you see this collection! My favorite was the dress with lace off-shoulder details!
The fifth showcase of the evening was from Kindred, in Oak Park Mall, which is a boutique collective. Skirts and graphic tees are a Fall favorite of mine, as you have seen in the last post on my blog, and in so many other posts of mine. Seems like the team of Kindred had the same idea. My favorites were the rust skirt and graphic tee combo, the plaid mini with rust sweater and hat, and of course the retro button fly denim outfit!
The sixth designer of the evening was Sarah Solnet who brought such an ethereal aesthetic to the runway. Loved the play of sheer layers and textures. feminity and structural details are the focal points in so many of her garments.
The seventh designer of the evening was Gracie Key, who strives to empower women through affordable and sustainable designer fashion. You couldn't miss the velvet, sequins, satin in her collection. Loved how she created chic layers, with the various textures.
The eight designer of the evening was KCFW veteran Lauren Bander, and one of my all-time favorites. This is her 12th season of KCFW, and I have been fortunate to be have seen so many of her collections, over the years. Lauren Bander outshines herself with every collection. Every time you feel awestruck by her collections on the runway, she has something even more spectacular next season. She is known for her effortless bridge between haute couture and pret. When her first model came down the runway, goth glam is what came to my mind. her outfits have this special ability to create drama on the runway. Charcoal glitter, navy, black, and burgundy were some of her colors for this season. And if Lauren Bander says, tulle skirts are here stay, you go and get one!
Last but not the least, was Laura Citron! Glitter was the keyword for the finale designer of the Friday night runway shows! Liquid silver, shimmery hot pinks, glitzy gold, she had it all. I loved the big ode to the 80s glam, which spoke out to me, in her silhouettes.
And that's a wrap! Stay tuned for a recap of Saturday night runway shows!
