It was time for the final night of Kansas City Fashion Week. It was a sold out show, if that's any indicator, to start off. the week long fashion extravaganza, is always rumored to shine the brightest on its final night. KCFW is an integral part of writing calendar for the year, and I had to be there. Thank you to KCFW for letting me be one of their Official Media for yet another season.
My favorites of the night were Barbara Bultman, Georgina Herrera and SHEbyChristian Micheal with Dolyn Bags
Saturday evening runway shows at Grand Hall of Kansas City, started with a bang. KCFW favorite and Project Runway alumnus Michael Drummond kickstarted the shows with his signature flair. From mixing gold and silver and velvet to carrying on his trend with custom prints, he had created interesting silhouettes with an over emphasis on the color Black. And Black is always good, any time of the year.
The second designer of the night was Laura McGrew with her line, Tomboy ,which is quite popular at KCFW. Polka Dots, stripes, neons, blacks and greys came together in an atheleisure inspired collection. Laura McGrew is known for her emphasis in ethical designing. My favorite piece from the collection was the cape and skirts set with thigh high boots.
Barbara Bultman almost brought the festival season to Kansas City, with her aesthetic touch. Earth tones, bright mustard yellows, cobalt blues, contrasted with neutrals, to paint a vibrant picture on the runway. I am so in love with these mustard yellow culottes paired with the leather crop top. Another favorite of mine was the leather dress paired with an earth toned cape jacket. These two outfits are on my wish list for sure.
Menswear and bags. Designer Christian Micheal collaborated with Designer Ami Beck of Dolyn Bags, to pair menswear and bags. Christian Micheal is a modern menswear designer who is well known for his quilting details, and his monochromes. This time around he added gold, brocade and florals to the mix. Stay tuned to the end of the post, for more from this amazing designer.
Jewellery Designer Georgina Herrera, of MCK Brands started off the shows , post interval. And she proved what statement jewellery was all about. From pendants, to gravity defying elabraorate neck pieces, she moved from gold and silver and mixed metals, with equal ease. Her showstopper , with her halter top, made with gold and silver and changed the benchmark of statement necklaces for good.
From one accessories designer to another, from gold to flowers and butterflies, love the variety which only Fashion Week can bring in one evening. Designer Courtney Perry showed her latest collection from her line House of Cochon . We were transported to a secret garden , with her flora and fauna inspired pieces. It was moody, beautiful and elegant.
Nataliya Meyer of Lucia's Sarto is known for her evening wear and luxurious gowns. With her latest collection, she moved away from her signature gowns, to help you with your Date night dressing inspiration. Little Black dresses with an edge, white and nude lace in all its glory , created a romantic line. This collection was another collaboration with accessories designer Ami Beck 's Dolyn Bags.
To show one collection in one evening of Fashion Week, is one thing, but to show two different collections, in one single night, is nothing short of amazing. Christian Micheal debuted his womenswear line, SHEbyChristianMicheal , with the finale show on Saturday Night. You could not miss the great tailoring , and detail to structure, which are such a prominent part of his design aesthetics. Monochromes and quilting created their magic on two different collections, and I must add, that Christian Micheal just nailed his womenswear line. When haute couture becomes wearable for every woman, I think, there lies the success of a collection. And his showstopper was none other than Designer Ami Beck, of Dolyn Bags.
That's a wrap of the runway shows of this season of KCFW. Stay tuned to the Blog for Exclusive Designer Interviews and Outfit Posts.
