Weekends always scream BRUNCH for me. It can be any month of the year, but you make a plan for Brunch and I shall be there. The husband was practicing with his band one weekend in Spring, and I was cribbing about the fact, how weekends are supposed to be all about family time. The silence which followed after the cribbing session and counter argument was super gloomy. But you want to know how I was smiling soon, like this. The man decided we do a nice family Brunch before he headed off to jam. I was clearly not complaining any more.
We headed to Rock and Brews in Prairie Fire in Overland Park, Kansas. We have been to our share of KISS concerts, and we were looking forward to our Brunch experience.
The Coffee was a house blend and a medium roast. While I love my dark roasts, this seemed to be quite nice. Maybe I need to change up my coffee more often.
We had ordered the Eggs Benedict which came with a side of house potatoes. Now for any Brunch joint, Eggs Benedict can be a make or break factor. But for this place, it surely was on the bright side. The hollondaise was creamy , the eggs were poached just right. I loved the red potatoes which had been fried with a generous helping of rosemary. The crunch of the potatoes was a good contrast to the silky eggs.
My daughter had her Mac and Cheese. It was a good portion for a kids meal. The slightest dash of red pepper added a nice kick, which wasn't too hot for kids to handle, but elevated flavor profile of the pasta a lot higher.
It was a nice morning over some good food. I still cant forget those potatoes though. We did have to box up some leftovers from my daughter's pasta plate. I must say, it made for a good snack for Mommy later in the day, as Daddy played his bass with his buddies.
